Announcing the first payroll products built on Check

Today we’re thrilled to publicly announce a select group of partners building payroll on Check. They span stages and industries, but all have one thing in common: Like us, they believe it’s too hard for business owners to pay their workers — so they are building innovative new payroll products on top of Check to address that. We’re also proud to share that Check now powers payroll for platforms that together support over 1 million workers across more than 100,000 small and mid-sized businesses.
Our partners
In January of this year we introduced ourselves as the first platform for developers to build new payroll products. Since then, it’s been humbling to see the products those developers are actually building. We’re thrilled to share that we’ve partnered with the following companies to power payroll: Homebase, ServiceTitan, Careswitch, Eddy, Table Needs, TreeRing Workforce Solutions, and Enkempass among others. As you can see, software platforms of all shapes and sizes are leveraging Check to build native payroll solutions for their customers.
To take a deeper dive into one example, Homebase helps more than 100,000 local businesses manage their hourly teams, with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, time clocks, communication, HR, and more. And now, with help from Check, they are offering easy-to-use payroll too.
“We’ve always seen payroll as a natural extension of our product—and our customers did too. Check has enabled us to build payroll that could be tailored specifically for our customers,” said John Waldmann, CEO and co-founder of Homebase. “We’re excited to be able to use Check’s technology to create our own unique solution to meet the needs of local businesses and hourly teams.”

Where we are + where we’re headed
While this is an important milestone for Check as a company, the reality is that we are still just getting started. Businesses across the country are still bogged down with onboarding workers, juggling complex schedules, and getting workers paid — the most fundamental promise between a worker and employer. Increasingly, these owners are able to turn to the incredible operating systems and services provided by vertical SaaS companies, HR platforms, and fintech products so they can get back to what matters most. So it’s little wonder that many businesses now rely on such platforms to solve all sorts of pain points from benefits to accounting to timekeeping and more.
But with over 13,000 taxes across the country, payroll has been too daunting for platforms to build and manage from scratch. It’s an undertaking that could take years — even for the sharpest of engineering and product teams.
When we started Check, we believed that if we could make it feasible for software platforms to easily offer tailored payroll products (shortening build time from years to months) then we could shift the entire structure of the payroll industry away from monolithic, one-size-fits-all giants to a more decentralized model with purpose-built software for every type of business. And, crucially, we believe that as we catalyze this shift we’ll inspire and enable more developers and entrepreneurs to build new products for these businesses, all powered by Check.
Check’s new look
As we introduce our first public partners, it also feels like the right time to debut a fresh new look and put the spotlight on our customers’ stories. Our website now features dedicated sections for partner case studies, use cases for Check, and detailed product descriptions — not to mention the many open roles we’re hiring for!
Along with the new design, we also revamped our API documentation, because we know that first-class infrastructure demands quality developer tools. We’ve made it easier than ever to request an API key from Check and start building a full payroll product. We continue to push forward toward our goal of making payroll infrastructure programmatically accessible to all software developers and platforms, abstracting away the complexity of building a payroll product.
We can’t wait to show you what we are building and more importantly, hear your ideas for building impactful payroll businesses. For questions or to learn more, reach out to us here.
